ROLAND VIa by MAC, 1/72 injection mold kit.
First introduced in May 1918, the Roland VI had the clinker-built fuselage that had its beginning the Viking long boats. It appears the majority went to Jasta 23b, 32b, 33, 35b and maybe a few to Jastas 30 and 34b. The plane was not highly regarded among its pilots, especially the low-power Mercedes version, which was considered obsolete when it reached the Front.
The model represents a Jasta 23b VIa that was turned over to the Americans for flight testing. The logenze decals are from Americal with all other decals from the kit. All kit parts were used with the exception of some of the PE parts.
Roland D-II by Pegasus 1/72nd scale short run injection mold
When the Roland C.II Walfisch (Whale) made its debut in March/April or 1916, its fine performance and solid construction led the Inspektion der Fliegertruppen (Idflieg -inspectorate of aviation troops) to place an order for three derivative single seat fighters in April 1916. The Roland fighter was one of the first fighters to be designed for a 160hp engine.
The Roland D.I entered service in October 1916 but had been withdrawn by June 1917. The D.II entered service in February 1917 but did not received favorable reviews from its pilots. The D.II's front line service was a short four months it was then relegated to Fighter training schools for the duration of the war.
This model depicts a D.II built by Pfalz and was used on the eastern front during 1917. The more popular Mercedes engine powered it.
This kit was built in 1997 out of the box. All decals and metal parts are supplied in the kit.
